Michiko Sarashina
née en 1968 à Bizen, JP

Biography
Michiko Sarashina has fired with wood for thirty years. Her pieces leave the kiln covered in melted ash, and she corrects almost nothing: the flame decides the colour, the deposit decides the surface. Trained in Bizen and later settled near Shigaraki, she works a local stoneware that she lets rest through two winters before throwing it. The forms are low and wide, set down like stones found at a riverbank. She fires three loads a year, never more, and refuses to date a piece before keeping it in the studio for a full season. The gallery has represented her since 2014.
